This is going to be a regular feature and one that we hope you will enjoy. For those non-English members, the radio programme ‘Desert Island Discs’, which has been running since 1942 is a British institution. It involves various people, of all levels of fame, choosing eight records that they would choose if they were cast away on a desert island and their reasons for choosing them. (They are also allowed a book and a luxury item which can be of no practical use)
Each month on Substack we will be asking various photographers, industry people and members of the group to choose eight pictures and show them with a brief description and an explanation. These do NOT have to be famous pictures, or well known images, simply the eight pictures that will cheer you up, remind you of home or whatever.
By the way, Tim has been listening to this programme his entire life and says that his favourite ever luxury was chosen by the wonderful comedian and writer Spike Milligan, who chose a car door. When asked why, he replied “ So I can wind the window down when it gets too hot”…classic!!!
This month its Tim’s Desert Island Pics and you can watch it here:
A Note on the 8 photographs chosen:
Dorothea Lange - Migrant Mother
Evelyn Hofer - Dublin 1966
William Albert Allard - Beneditta Buccellato, Sicily 1994
Irving Penn - Still Life
René Burri - Men on a roof top Sao Paulo
Tina Modotti - Two Calla Lillies
Photograph of Tim Clinch - Rolph Gobits 1982
Tim Clinch - Still life of a Cactus, shot on his Gandolfi
Hope you enjoyed it and please give us your feedback in the comments!

Just watched this having chosen seven out of eight of my pics (just can't think of an 8th) - and my first one is the René Burri picture!! Glad I chose them before watching!!
Very enjoyable. Love the format. Just missing 'By The Sleepy Lagoon' – perhaps Tim could improvise on his accordion for the next episode? :)
